Overview
While a Sociology degree from Washburn University can open the door to many careers that require a bachelor’s degree, it’s also a path to a career field that can provide work in a variety of settings – from government, to non-profit, to business as a researcher, service program developer, or community liaison.
At Washburn University, you’ll learn with experts who use the classroom and community partnerships to build your skills in ways that support you and create positive change for others.
What is Sociology?
Sociology is the “study of social life, and the social causes and consequences of human behavior,” according to the American Sociological Association (asanet.org). Since all human behavior is social, the subject matter of sociology ranges:
- from a family with a sick child to health care costs;
- from television cartoons to gender-role expectations;
- from “latchkey” kids to juvenile delinquency;
- from the food we eat to cultural identity;
- from community engagement to global awareness;
- from asylum seekers to immigration policy
Our Sociology program will provide you with skills that appeal to a wide range of employers who specifically recruit social science and liberal arts majors.
