In addition to training your creative side, writing arts at SUNY Plattsburgh includes courses in professional writing — such as grant writing — as well as other opportunities to learn the business-end of writing. Our magazine editing courses offer training in design, editing, promotion and both creating and launching social media platforms. You have the opportunity to put your skills to work on North Star, the department’s student-run literary magazine, and Saranac Review, a nationally recognized literary journal that offers student internships.

What Are My Career Opportunities?

Our English - Writing Arts majors at the State University of New York Plattsburgh have found jobs in fields such as editing and publishing, marketing and public relations, finance, library science and communications, among others. Those who choose to earn the B.A. in creative writing have been accepted into excellent M.F.A. programs.
