Graduates are qualified to work as teachers and directors in private early childhood programs; state-funded preschool programs, such as Great Start Readiness Preschool; and federally-funded HeadStart programs. Early Childhood Education students from Lake Superior State University develop their understanding of typically and atypically developing children through integrated coursework and field experience, as well as two semester-long practicums.
The required minor provides the opportunity for students to explore a related field, adding to their knowledge and skills for working with young children and their parents, or expanding their expertise for employment opportunities.

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.4 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Scholarships ranging from $500 to $8,000 are available to high school graduates and Michigan community college graduates. Students must be admitted to LSSU by March 1 for consideration.
