Overview

Students in the Applied Sustainability program at Pacific University Oregon combine the fundamentals of ecology and permaculture with social sciences and humanities as they seek solutions to complex global challenges.

We emphasize hands-on learning. Students study and practice ecological design at permaculture sites near campus, including Pacific University’s own B Street Farm, a learning lab for food production and permaculture.

Student Learning Outcomes

A student completing a major in sustainability shall demonstrate the ability to:

Understand and apply transdisciplinary approaches to sustainability issues, across and within the spheres of sustainability (e.g. social, ecological and economic).

Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, theoretical and practical knowledge of ecological, social and economic systems, and their intersections within sustainability.

Understand and apply principles of community engagement in accordance with disciplinary standards, to develop equitable interventions for sustainability issues, and communicate these interventions to diverse audiences through culturally appropriate modes.

Design, conduct, interpret, and evaluate sustainable systems research using quantitative methods and reasoning.

Submit High School Transcript and Diploma. Transcripts from high school must be official with a certified translation in English. All college and/or university foreign transcripts must be sent to a credit evaluation company (WES or ECE are accepted). No exceptions to this policy.
