Overview
At the Sociology from University of Mary Washington, you’ll get a strong foundation in sociological theory and research methods through the study of socialization, culture, social organization, social change, differentiation, and inequality. Courses focus on such topics as ethnic and racial relations, family, gender, medicine, occupations and professions, organizations, politics and the state, popular culture, population, religion, urban life, aging, juvenile delinquency, and criminology.

As a UMW sociology graduate, you’ll be prepared for graduate school or work. General requirements
- UMW accepts both The Common Application and the UMW Application. Please submit the application along with an essay, application fee, or approved waiver.
- Send transcripts and/or exam results – matriculation/secondary school certificates, mark sheets, diplomas – with a certified copy of the English translation, for high school work you have completed.
- Submit at least one letter of recommendation from a counselor or teacher, using the Common Application Secondary School Report.
- English Language Proficiency
- Students are required to demonstrate financial ability to pay for at least one year of academic and living expenses and pay your enrollment deposit before being issued an I-20 by UMW.
