The English Department offers programs in literature, language and writing leading to a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in English. A variety of learning experiences enables students to reach their personal and intellectual potential.


Bradley’s English program combines study and analysis of literature with practical writing experience. The general English program gives you a foundation in analysis, theory and writing. Concentrations in creative writing, literary studiesand professional writing prepare you for specialized career interests. Beyond the classroom, you can participate in writing competitions throughout the year, join the English honor society or contribute to Bradley’s student-produced literary magazine and newspaper.

Bradley’s English degrees successfully prepare you to enter the workforce or graduate school. In  recent years, most students found jobs or continued their education within six months of graduation. They’re working at places such as United Way, AmeriCorps and ConAgra Foods. Others are attending graduate schools for library science, English, humanities, and law at institutions such as the University of Illinois, Ohio State University and the University of Chicago.
