They believe performance skills are a vital part of your preparation to teach others. You can take advantage of that approach in our four-and-a-half-year, double-degree program.

You'll get the best of both worlds -- field-based preparation in music education and intensive study of your instrument or voice. You will also study conducting, take part in one or more of our many ensembles, and learn how to use multimedia in the classroom.

This Music Education and Performance program at Ithaca College places equal emphasis on both music education and performance.

Key Features

Just as you recognize the crucial importance of a professional-quality instrument to play on, you also understand the need for professional-quality facilities in which to play. The magnificent James J. Whalen Center for Music is the perfect setting for you to study, research, rehearse, and perform.

Take note of the many practice rooms -- some 90 in all -- or admire the excellent acoustics of the faculty studios where you will have your weekly private lessons.

Perhaps you'll browse the ensemble collection library or view the spacious instrumental and choral rehearsal rooms as well as the jazz rehearsal room. And you will make extensive use of the state-of-the-art Carl and Helene Wickstrom Music Education Center, with its exceptional collections of general music basal series, method books, musical scores, maps, and other teaching materials -- not to mention the multimedia music education classroom.

Take your pick of venues to envision the culmination of all your hours of practice. On any of our stages -- our majestic, 735-seat concert hall, our 250-seat chamber recital hall, or our intimate, 150-seat recital room -- you will be ready to give the performance of your life.

The Financial Aid Application in IC Connect.

An official secondary school transcript that displays courses and grades for all years of secondary school attended. Applicants must also submit official leaving exam results and official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities attended, if applicable.

All documents written in a world language must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Please note that both documents are required—the original in your first language and the English translation.

A letter of recommendation is optional. If submitted, it must be from the principal, school head, or college counselor, sent directly from your school to Ithaca College.
