The Literature - Theatre program at the Reed College is for those who think of drama as the union of complementary disciplines, this program should appeal to the student interested in playwriting, dramaturgy, and performance, as well as to those who intend to write literary criticism with an emphasis on dramatic literature.

Overview

Upon successful completion of the  Literature - Theatre program at the Reed College, a student will have developed the skills and knowledge required for successful completion of both a Theatre major and a literature major (Chinese, Classics, English, French, German, Russian, Spanish).

Learning Outcomes

The primary assessment tool for learning in the major at Reed and the level of student achievement in the major area is the senior thesis; the junior qualifying examination, which assesses a student's readiness for thesis, provides a second assessment tool. Literature-Theatre majors take two junior qualifying examinations, one in Theatre and one in a department from the Division of Literature and Languages.
