Good readers make good writers, creative thinkers, and responsible citizens. Students in the English Department participate in incisive, well-researched, and thoughtful study of literature as well as reflective, innovative, and skillful writing development.
The courses are characterized by frequent discussion, prioritize originality, and emphasize student-centered workshops.

The curriculum includes courses in Identity & Difference, Place & Power, Literary Traditions & Aesthetics, and Creative Writing. In creative writing courses, students are encouraged to be aware of and articulate about their approaches to their craft, to realize their potential as critical and creative writers, and to discover the power of revision to deepen their thinking and move their works toward excellence.

There’s a variety of career possibilities with a degree in English Literature-Creative Writing. An application for admission, via the Common Application, which includes:
- Teacher Evaluation Form (teacher invitation sent via the Common Application)
- Secondary School Report and International School Supplement from counselor or school official (invitation sent via the Common Application)
- Official High School Transcript in English
- Optional: SAT or ACT scores. Test scores are optional, and you may make the choice about whether or not you would like them to be considered. If you choose to do so, you can self-report your test scores by attaching your score report to the Common Application or uploading to your admission portal.
- Application fee of US $30- This fee is required of all international applicants and cannot be waived.
- Proof of English Proficiency.
