You might travel with your medical ethics professor to a nearby hospital to shadow a doctor on rounds, compare thoughts on Confucianism with Chinese students on a study away trip, work on environmental projects with the Shi Center for Sustainability, or volunteer in underprivileged communities.
You’ll also have a chance to study the philosophies of other cultures both on campus and during study away trips. In fact, we offer the highest number of culturally diverse philosophy courses of any university in the country.
A philosophy degree can get you almost anywhere. Philosophy students from Furman University have gone on to graduate school, become doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, environmental affairs specialists, and journalists. No matter where you want to go, philosophy will give you the tools you need to get there. Philosophy will also help you examine why you’re passionate about the things you’re passionate about and gain a deeper understanding of your chosen field. The result—you’ll choose a career (and a life!) you love, not just another job.
