Overview

Exercise science is the study of human movement. This field examines how physical activity, exercise, sport, and rehabilitation can help improve people’s lives.

As an Exercise Science major at Manhattan College, you will complete a 120-hour internship at a professional site. You will be able to match your internship with your interests and career goals to receive valuable hands-on training before you graduate. Internships are available with a variety of exercise science professionals who are:

  • physical therapists
  • occupational therapists
  • certified strength and conditioning coaches
  • sport performance coaches
  • exercise leaders
  • physician assistants
  • cardio-pulmonary specialists
  • nutritionists

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3.4

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3.4 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • 1. Official High School Transcript
  • 2. SAT and/or ACT Scores: Critical reading and math sections of the SAT are reviewed during the admissions process.
  • 3. Recommendation Letter: One letter of recommendation from a teacher or guidance counselor is required. You may submit up to three academic letters. 
  • 4. Personal Essay: You must submit a brief personal statement or college essay. This essay should be roughly 500 words.
  • 5. $75 Non-Refundable Application Fee
  • 6.International students whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency by submitting official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)  or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores.
