Overview
The Department of Music at Winston-Salem State University offers three concentrations among our degrees for music:
- Music Major: In our main program of study, you’ll learn about the vast history of music, from the earliest known instruments, rhythms and melodies to today’s innovative composers, and its impact on society.
- Music Education Licensure: Bring music to children’s lives with this music degree path. You’ll learn teaching and evaluation methods, techniques and strategies for K–12 music education.
- Music Business: Discover how the music industry works across areas such as concert promotion, record production and business plan development.
What You Can Do With Your Bachelor’s Degree for Music
Degrees for music prepare you for a variety of careers. WSSU music majors pursue a wide range of careers:

Students in the music education licensure often work in teaching positions in North Carolina schools. In fact, nearly 100% of our music education graduates find employment in K–12 schools in careers such as:

General requirements
- Submission of Financial Statement.
- Completed Application for Undergraduate Admissions and the $50 (U.S. dollars) non-refundable application fee.
- Official records of your courses and grades from all secondary schools and universities you have attended. These records must be notarized. Certified non-English transcripts or grade reports should be accompanies by official (literal, not interpretive) translations.
- If English is not your native language, even if English is the medium of instruction in your home country, you are required to take the TOEFL or IELTS which are administered at many sites worldwide.
- Before admission to a degree seeking program can be completed, an applicant must document availability of sufficient funds for the first two semesters of enrollment.
