About

The Department of Social Work at the University of Northern Iowa offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees.

Overview

The purpose of the undergraduate social work major is to provide professional education and training that prepares students for employment as generalist practitioners. Students in the major acquire knowledge and skills for work with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities.

A major in Social Work from the University of Northern Iowa puts a student in direct practice with local, state, national and even international agency experiences. Whether it is through volunteer experiences, service learning experiences or field practicum experiences, students will gain the skills necessary to provide future clients the best possible social work interventions.

Student Social Work Associations

  • The department's student social work associations are for students who want to learn more about the profession and want to collaborate and network with other social work majors at UNI.
