The Bachelor of Science in Aviation Flight Technology program at Eastern Michigan University is designed to prepare individuals for positions as entry-level professional pilots in the aviation industry. Based on the needs of the aviation industry, the program encompasses a path that takes an individual from student pilot to certified flight instructor.

The Aviation Flight Technology degree at Eastern Michigan University includes a number of specialized courses that incorporate aviation business and management skills, safety, human factors, weather, aerodynamics, aviation law and regulations, and crew resource management. Students may also complete a FAA Aircraft Dispatch Certification component.

More than 96% of EMU flight students pass their initial FAA pilot exams. EMU, partnering with the Eagle Flight Centre, is authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to certify graduates, who are eligible to apply for restricted privileges of an Airline Transport Pilot (R-ATP) certificate. Graduates with a bachelor’s degree in aviation flight technology may apply for an R-ATP with only 1,000 hours total time, as opposed to the normal requirement of 1,500 hours.
