Overview
The Communication Sciences and Disorders programme at Central Michigan University provides a robust foundation for students aiming to support individuals with speech, language, and hearing challenges. This undergraduate course is specifically designed to transition students into advanced clinical master’s or doctoral level studies.
Students engage in a holistic curriculum that addresses the social, emotional, and educational impacts of communication impairments. By studying at this institution, learners gain a deep understanding of how to prevent, identify, and treat various disorders while working alongside experienced professionals in the field of health sciences.
Why Communication Sciences and Disorders at Central Michigan University?
The university offers exceptional facilities, including the on-campus Carls Centre for Clinical Care and Education. Students benefit from direct access to the Summer Speech-Language Specialty Clinics, where they observe evaluation and therapy sessions for diverse patients with communication and swallowing disorders.
Distinctive teaching features include service-learning opportunities at local medical facilities like Crestwood Village and Isabella County Medical Care Facility. These partnerships allow students to serve as skilled communication partners for individuals with cognitive impairments, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
The institution also fosters professional growth through active student organisations. Learners can join the Association for Future Speech-Language Pathologists or the Pre-Audiology Student Association to build networks and engage in community outreach, such as providing autism awareness lessons in local schools.
