Overview

During the Sociology BA program offered by The New School students develop a foundational understanding of the key texts, concepts, methods, research tools, and evolution of the sociology discipline. The program includes training in qualitative research methods, such as participant observation, interviews, discourse analysis, and historical sociology. The interests of the faculty range from the micro (interactions of individuals in urban neighborhoods) to the macro (global political economy).

Sociology students benefit from on-campus speaker series and conferences featuring leading academic and applied sociologists from around the world. They also engage in interdisciplinary dialogue with programs in history, economics, environmental studies, psychology, urban studies, philosophy, and media studies

Career Paths

Eugene Lang College helps students develop as well-rounded, engaged citizens who are thoughtful, articulate, and creative. Sociology majors go on to pursue advanced studies in social science and careers in social and public service, business, law, policy research and analysis, and education.
