Having the ability to speak and understand Chinese will make you a marketable candidate in a variety of professional fields, such as business, consulting or politics.

The program

Participate in one of DePaul’s Study Abroad programs in Beijing, Hong Kong or Shanghai where you’ll study and live in China for an extended period of time and experience the Chinese language and culture first-hand. Students seeking to sharpen their skills should consider the Chinese Studies program from DePaul University.

We also offer the 3+3 BA/JD program, which allows high-achieving first-year undergraduate students to be admitted simultaneously to the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LAS) and the College of Law (LAW). You’ll complete your first three years in LAS and your final three years in LAW.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.5

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.5 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

  • All applicants are required to submit official high school transcripts. 
  • Four years of English
  • Three years of mathematics (minimum course work equivalent to Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)
  • Three years of science (two of which must be lab science)
  • Two years of social science
  • Two years of language study other than English
  • Invite your high school counselor to submit the Common Application School Report.
  • An official transcript showing courses taken and credit earned
  • Standardized test scores (ACT or SAT)
  • Official community college transcripts for any courses taken
