Overview

Biology is an interdisciplinary department at Montana State University Billings. That means it doesn't divide into several separate science departments with each having their own priorities.

The department is one in which biologists, chemists, physicists, and earth scientists all work together to design and administer the best possible academic programs for our students. That is part of the commitment to providing you with an excellent training within your major that is complemented with exposures to other science disciplines as well. Because of that, graduates are experts within their major, but are also well-rounded thinkers who can approach and solve problems with broad knowledge and skills.

Opportunities

The department participates in the Game Warden Training Program, internships and cooperative educational experiences at the Energy labs, Maxim Technologies, Brewery and Park Service. Energy labs offer a $500.00 scholarship in chemistry. Our faculty regularly utilize some of the equipment and expertise from the hospitals for research.

Faculty have given guest presentations, offered hands-on lab training and consultations with high school teachers from West High and Skyview high schools and community colleges. Faculty have/continue to collaborate with MSUBozeman on research projects. Faculty from MSU Bozeman, scientists from EPA, DRI, Zoo Montana and other agencies have given guest lectures at the science colloquium.
