Overview
Students in the Gender, Race and Identity program at University of Nevada, Reno study the intersection of race, gender, sexuality, class and other forms of identity, difference and power that comprise our social world. The major is expressly interdisciplinary and intersectional and provides opportunities to study both historical and contemporary contexts as well as global and local settings.
Students gain tools to critically analyze and engage our world and to enact change in their communities and professions, including through careers in public advocacy, politics, education, sustainability, the arts and more. Within the B.A. in Gender, Race, and Identity, students may fulfill either the general major in GRI or complete either of two specializations, Ethnic Studies or Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

General requirements
To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
- Required high school courses: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.
- You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses (AGPA) in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.
- Standardized test scores are not required for admission to the University of Nevada, Reno. The University accepts the ACT and SAT scores and may use scores for class placement in first-year courses.
- If you are a student who does not meet the academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University.
