What will I learn in a wildlife ecology and conservation degree program?

The Wildlife Ecology and Conservation program of University of Nevada, Reno prepares you to study wild animal populations and learn about ways to protect threatened and endangered species. You'll study how humans have impacted our environment and how we can conserve important ecosystems, including forests and rangelands.

Your classes will give you a strong foundation in basic science, including biology, chemistry and math, before you move on to classes specific to your major, such as managing wildlife populations, ecology and population biology, and environmental pollution.

In addition to general major requirements, you'll take courses in plant and animal physiology and behavior, different kind of animal organisms, and plant biology.

Hands-on classes and both indoor and outdoor laboratories are a hallmark of our program, and you'll be able to work with nationally renowned faculty to gain experience in both fieldwork and research.

General requirements

To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:

Required high school courses: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses (AGPA) in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

Standardized test scores are not required for admission to the University of Nevada, Reno. The University accepts the ACT and SAT scores and may use scores for class placement in first-year courses.
If you are a student who does not meet the academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University.
