Overview

Students take a core of required courses in engineering, the humanities, mathematics and science, as well as supplementary elective courses. These courses introduce basic engineering science and design concepts and provide students with the opportunity to develop specific career interests in sub-fields of mechanical engineering such as renewable energy, nanotechnology or biomedical engineering.

General requirements

To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:

Required high school courses: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses (AGPA) in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences.

Standardized test scores are not required for admission to the University of Nevada, Reno. The University accepts the ACT and SAT scores and may use scores for class placement in first-year courses.
If you are a student who does not meet the academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University.
