Overview

The Department of Psychology at University of Miami offers a B.A. and a B.S. degree with a major in psychology and is responsible for administering the B.S. degree with a major in neuroscience, which is an interdisciplinary major between the Department of Psychology, Department of Biology, and the Miller School of Medicine. Both of these programs are highly- competitive but the neuroscience program specifically requires some of the highest admission standards of any undergraduate major (1360 SAT or 30 ACT).

Mission

In accordance with the goals of the University of Miami, the mission of the Department of Psychology is to acquire, advance, and disseminate knowledge within the psychological and biobehavioral sciences. In order to achieve these goals, the Department seeks a balance among several academic endeavors, including basic scientific research, applied research, undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching, professional training and development, and service to the community. In pursuing these activities, the Department seeks to attract and retain the highest quality faculty and students, foster respect for differences among people, nurture curiosity, and insist upon high standards of thought, study, and communication that should characterize the ethical, educated person.

Complete and submit the Common Application. Upon submitting, you will be asked to pay a $70 nonrefundable application fee.

If you have attended a secondary school outside of the United States, you must submit your official secondary school documents (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, examination results, etc.)

We require you to submit two letters of recommendation: one from a high school guidance counselor and one from a teacher.

The University of Miami is need-aware for first-year international undergraduate applicants. This means that, for a portion of international applicants, the Admission Committee will consider that student’s ability to pay tuition without the need for financial aid.
