About

The Department of World Languages and Cultures is currently revising the curriculum for Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Utah, and we look forward to declaring students beginning in Fall 2020. Students majoring or minoring in Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies (CLCS) compare multiple literatures and cultures within the framework of a single degree.

Overview

As a Comparative Literary and Cultural Studies student at the University of Utah, you will explore themes across cultures and time periods, compare national literatures and cultures, learn and apply international literary and cultural theories, and analyze diverse types of texts (literary, visual, musical, etc.) produced in multiple cultural spheres.

The Student Experience

Students may enrich their academic experience by completing a study abroad program or an original undergraduate research project. We also offer CLCS 3940: Community Engaged Learning as a way for students to engage with the community outside of the classroom.

Career Opportunities

Many careers are available to students of the Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies program. Enter the field of media and broadcasting and become a producer, journalist, press agent, or publicist. If you want a career in business, work as a marketing director, advertising agent, or human resources specialist. With additional education, students can also find employment as professors, curators, administrators, advisors, or librarians.
