Overview

All majors plan their coursework with a faculty member who serves as their major advisor. Students may ask any full-time faculty member to serve as their advisor.

Religious Studies majors at the College of William & Mary go on to a wide range of careers. Many do graduate work in Religious Studies, History, or related fields as preparation for teaching. Some go into law, medicine, government, international service, business, or the ministry.

Undergraduate Research

The required course for all Religious Studies majors is Theory and Method in the Study of Religion (RELG 391). Usually taken in the junior year, this course surveys the dominant methods of studying religion and the theories on which they are based. It is the foundation from which students can start to build their own research projects, if they so choose.

Students who want to really dig into a topic may do an Independent Studies project with a professor of their choice, or complete an Honors project.
