Overview

If you major in electrical engineering (EE), you can expect to line up a rewarding job well before you step off the graduation stage. EE is the backbone discipline of today’s technological explosion, from the development of microelectronics and robotics, to the embedded computer systems found in household appliances, automobiles, as well as spacecraft and satellite equipment. Increasingly, it is also the source for innovative solutions to challenges in energy and healthcare.

You’ll have access to two large computing labs as well as six labs specialized for digital and analog circuits, robotics, and networking. While you work in the specialty labs, you won’t be crowded and you’ll get all the attention you need from your professor—in these labs there are never more than 12 students at a time.

You’ll be able to work side by side with some of the top minds in the business—your professors are not only experts in the EE field, but they are terrific mentors and will help you find the best application of your talents and interests. You will have multiple opportunities to perform undergraduate research in a research group in the department for credit or as part of a paid internship.

In addition, you’ll be getting a superb liberal arts education that will enrich your technical and scientific training and help you to become a better problem solver, team member, and manager. You’ll also be prepared to advance into graduate studies in engineering, law, medicine, and finance.

Funding

We make three important commitments to U.S. Citizens and eligible non-citizens to ensure that students from many different economic circumstances can enroll at Vanderbilt:

  • First:  Since talent and promise recognize no social, cultural, economic, or geographic boundaries, our admissions process is need-blind for U.S. Citizens and eligible non-citizens.
  • Second: Vanderbilt will meet 100% of a family’s demonstrated financial need.
  • Third:  Financial aid awards do not include loans. Instead of offering need-based loans to undergraduate students, Vanderbilt offers additional grant assistance. This does not involve income bands or "cut-offs" that impact or limit eligibility.

Studyportals Tip: Students can search online for independent or external scholarships that can help fund their studies. Check the scholarships to see whether you are eligible to apply. Many scholarships are either merit-based or needs-based.
