Overview

Students in the program develop critical thinking skills, refine their intellectual and creative processes, and learn both traditional and contemporary aspects of the ceramicist’s craft. The ceramics curriculum develops an understanding of ceramics as an expressive artistic medium in contemporary society. Students experience the variety of technologies used by contemporary artists. The program provides a solid foundation for students pursuing graduate studies or a studio art career and for students wanting to build on their creative training through further professional and/or academic experiences.

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

General Requirements

To be eligible to apply for admission to IUPUI, you must either earn a diploma from an accredited high school OR pass a high school equivalency exam such as the GED test, the TASC test, or the HiSet exam.When we review your application, we look at:

  • Your high school courses and the grades you received in them.Though no grade point average guarantees admission to IUPUI, we generally expect applicants to have at least a B average.
  • Your SAT and/or ACT score(s). You are required to take the SAT or the ACT to apply for admission to IUPUI.
  • Your essay. As part of your application, you must write a 200- to 400-word essay about your academic and career plans.
