Antioch University’s roots began as Antioch College. It first opened its doors in 1852 in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Antioch’s first president, Horace Mann, was a lawyer and Congressman from Massachusetts, a well-known abolitionist and social reformer. He is considered the founder of public education in the United States, believing that a well-educated populace was essential to a strong democracy.

Education

Antioch University provides learner-centered education to empower students with the knowledge and skills to lead meaningful lives and to advance social, economic, and environmental justice.

Research

MERE has several educational initiatives that range from public contact (See: Mount Monadnock Summit Steward Program ) to research and citizen science for high school and college students (See: Adopt A Crevice Community).

We are also hard at work developing materials that hikers, families, classroom teachers, and other educational professionals can use to expand understanding of the mountain and the region. AULA does not have on campus housing, but there are several choices that you can consider in regard to your culture and favorite when searching for housing. There are different areas close to Culver City such as Santa Monica, Playa Vista, Playa del Rey, Westchester, El Segundo, Marina del Rey, Palms, Venice Blvd, Wilshire Blvd, Westwood, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood. AUNE’s cohort educational model fosters close relationships and a strong sense of community. Students participate in a range of activities and groups related to their academic programs, interests in governance, activism, community outreach, or other areas. Future student initiatives are limited only by the imagination and drive of those who want to start something new.
