The Huntingdon Normal School was established by a spry young Huntingdon physician, Dr. Andrew B. Brumbaugh, and his two cousins, Henry and John Brumbaugh. Henry provided a second-story room over his local print shop for classes, while John lodged and fed the college's first teacher, Jacob M. Zuck. Andrew was to "provide students and furniture".

With significant experience independently conducting or collaborating on research, Juniata students have a distinct advantage in graduate programs. In fact, many Juniata students now design and conduct their own research projects as part of their coursework.

I think that Juniata talks up a great game, however I feel that in some ways I was not prepared once I left the university. The concert choir is the absolute best part. The opportunities for studying abroad were phenomenal.
