History
Established in 1972 by The University of Texas System Board of Regents, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is Houston’s Health University and Texas’ resource for health care education, innovation, scientific discovery and excellence in patient care.
Education
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is primarily a graduate-level university focusing on the health sciences. Located in the prestigious Texas Medical Center, UTHealth is the most comprehensive academic health center in the Southwestern United States - the only one in Texas with six schools - offering programs in biomedical science, dentistry, health informatics, medicine, nursing, and public health.

University Ranking
Student services
The mission of the Student Affairs Office is to assist students in successfully attaining their academic goals as a nursing student by providing timely and accurate information, quality service, and personal guidance. The Student Affairs Office serves as the central "hub" for the services that will assist students from the time they apply through graduation. The services and support systems offered include:
- Recruiting activities for all programs
- Processing of applicant documents
- Conducting orientation for all new students
- Providing financial and scholarship information
- Planning commencement activities
- Providing academic advisors
- Providing degree plans
- Clearing and certifying all students for graduation
Housing services
University Housing consists of two unique apartment communities. The 7900 Cambridge complex was built in 1982 and offers first and second floor units in one, two and three bedroom floor plans. The 1885 El Paseo property, which was built in 2005, is a contemporary style living environment with four floors of one and two bedroom apartments with a four story parking garage located in the middle of the complex.
Library services
As a participating member of the Texas Health Science Libraries Consortium, health science center students, staff and faculty have access and borrowing privileges at the HAM-TMC and several libraries within the Texas Medical Center.

Medical services
Student Health Services is available to all UTHealth students and their dependents. Also, MD Anderson Cancer Center (students only) of the School of Health Professions.
Campus life
- Located in the Texas Medical Center, considered the largest medical center in the world.
- Consists of more than 60 owned buildings and leased facilities with a total of 4.6 million assignable square feet throughout the state.
Sports facilities
The Recreation Center offers a variety of recreational and athletic facilities and equipment.Programs are designed for health, fitness, relaxation and fun.
Student clubs
The Student InterCouncil (SIC) is the UTHealth student governance organization and is the recognized forum of student opinion and the primary vehicle for student participation in the governance of UTHealth. The organization is comprised of representatives from each of the six schools and from underrepresented student and international student constituencies.
The SIC contributes to the quality of student life at UTHealth by participating in the development and implementation of policies and procedures affecting students; representing student interests on external and internal committees; and planning and implementing activities that address the special needs of students.
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award certificate, baccalaureate, masters, doctorate and special professional degrees.
