RIT was born of an unlikely institutional marriage of an influential cultural association, the Rochester Athenaeum, founded in 1829, and a technical training school, the Mechanics Institute, founded in 1885. The institute adopted the name Rochester Institute of Technology in 1944 and awarded its first bachelor of science degree in 1955.
Programs ranking in the top 10 nationally in the following areas: computing security, film and animation, fine arts (glass, metals and jewelry design), industrial design, online MBA, photography, and video game design.
Award-winning programs in a host of uncommon disciplines: sustainability, medical illustration, microelectronic engineering, packaging science, museum studies, American sign language/English interpretation, and diagnostic medical sonography.
Unique doctoral programs: RIT’s eight Ph.D. programs include astrophysics, color science, computing and information sciences, engineering, imaging science, mathematical modeling, microsystems engineering, and sustainability.
RIT sponsored research grew by 18 percent in fiscal year 2018, reaching a record $78 million in funding. RIT received 340 new awards from a variety of state, federal, corporate, and foundation sponsors.
RIT’s strategic research initiatives are in the following areas: Cybersecurity, Personalized Healthcare Technology, the Future Photon Initiative, Remote Sensing with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, and Computational Relativity and Gravitation.
Each year RIT gathers information about the career plans of its graduates in accordance with national standards established for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). These outcome summaries are provided for both the university overall and each RIT college at both the undergraduate and advanced degree candidate levels and reflect the career activities of graduates within 6 months of their degree certification.

Health Center staff approach health care from a holistic perspective. Recognizing that good health is an important component of a successful college experience, the Center strives to support students in illness prevention and developing healthy lifestyles.
RIT’s main campus is located in Henrietta, NY, and occupies 1,300 acres in suburban Rochester, the third-largest city in New York state. Rochester is large enough to provide the dining and night life opportunities you might expect in a bigger city, yet small and friendly enough to be inviting and accessible. Of the nearly 19,000 enrolled students, nearly 3,500 students are from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds along with more than 2,700 international students.

Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) offers a strong academic environment, especially for engineering and planning students. The quality of education is good, and most professors are knowledgeable and supportive. Classes are generally well-structured, with a strong focus on fundamentals, which helps build a solid academic base. One of the best aspects of RUET is its calm and peaceful campus environment, which is very suitable for focused study. Compared to many other universities in Bangladesh, there are fewer political disruptions, allowing students to concentrate more on their academics. However, there are some limitations. Laboratory facilities and modern equipment could be improved, and administrative processes can sometimes be slow. In addition, opportunities for international exposure and industry collaboration are still limited compared to top global institutions. Overall, RUET is a very good choice for students who are serious about their studies and want a disciplined academic life. I would definitely recommend it, especially for engineering and planning-related fields.
My journey into the Mechanical Engineering program at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology was quite challenging, as gaining admission required significant effort and preparation. However, after enrollment, the initial academic experience was somewhat overwhelming. At the beginning, it was difficult to fully grasp the lectures and teaching style, which made the transition into university-level engineering education challenging. Over time, I began to understand the importance of the foundational courses offered in the curriculum. While some of these courses may initially seem outdated, they play a crucial role in building the core engineering knowledge required for a mechanical engineer. That said, in the current era shaped by rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and modern technologies, the curriculum could benefit from further updates. Incorporating more contemporary and interdisciplinary courses would better align the program with global trends and industry demands. The laboratory facilities in the department are reasonably good, especially within the context of Bangladesh. However, there is still room for improvement, particularly in terms of modernization and access to advanced equipment. On a positive note, the department demonstrates strong research potential. Many graduates from RUET pursue higher studies, including PhD programs at well-ranked international universities, which reflects the academic strength and capability of its students. Students at RUET are highly talented and dedicated. However, like many institutions in developing countries, certain limitations in resources and infrastructure can restrict their ability to fully realize their potential on a global scale. Overall, I would rate the Mechanical Engineering program at RUET 7.5 out of 10, considering both its strengths and areas for improvement.
