About

History

Established as a University in 1994, CityU now has 3 Colleges and 4 Schools: College of Business, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, School of Creative Media, School of Energy and Environment, School of Law, and School of Veterinary Medicine, jointly established last year as a partnership with Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine.

Through its extensive links with relevant industries, CityU provides real-life opportunities for students to work with and learn from professionals in the workplace, from bachelor degrees and postgraduate studies to associate degrees and continuing education.

Our teachers are recruited from around the world, each an expert in their profession. Employing interactive and IT-based teaching methodologies.

Research

Research degree programmes aim to provide advanced education to nurture people who can:

  • contribute to the advancement of knowledge through independent and original research;
  • demonstrate specialist subject knowledge and a high level of transferable skills, including analytical, communication and leadership skills; and
  • enhance economic, social and cultural development.

Research degree programmes consists of both coursework and independant research studies culminating in the submission of a thesis.

The University offers the following two types of research degree programmes:
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
  • Master of Philosophy (MPhil)

Career

Our approach to education is heavily influenced by the philosophy of “whole-person development”, a contemporary theory about learning and development that strongly resembles traditional Chinese educational philosophy.

Subject to particular focus are the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic elements of education, coupled with the special attention paid to the emotional and career development aspects typical to Western educational philosophies.

CityU offers state-of-the-art learning, teaching and research facilities in a high-technology environment to create an ambiance that encourages intellectual curiosity, social interaction, self-expression and mutual support.

Student Development Services (SDS) provides a Personal Counselling Service, staffed by a team of professional counsellors, to help students overcome personal and emotional issues. SDS counsellors are friendly and experienced. Do not hesitate to come and talk to our counsellor whenever you need help. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
