Founded on Oct. 13, 1885, the Georgia School of Technology opened its doors in October 1888 to 84 students. The School’s creation signaled the beginning of the transformation of the agrarian South to an industrial economy.

In recent years, Georgia Tech has been a national leader in managing the global transition from an industrial economy to an information economy.


Georgia Tech's wide variety of technologically-focused majors and minors consistently earn strong national rankings. Georgia Tech has six colleges and 28 schools focusing on Business, Computing, Design, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Sciences.


Georgia Tech's research is organized into Core Research Areas to make it easier for you to learn more about your specific areas of interest. Our Freshman Experience program helps first-year campus residents build a solid personal and academic foundation with resources that are there if and when and they need them.

The Center for Academic Success offers comprehensive support options that include 1-to-1 Tutoring, Peer-Led Undergraduate Study (PLUS), the “Reboot” Academic Recovery Program, and more.

Housing services

More than just places to sleep and study, Tech’s residence halls offer a supportive environment designed to promote positive relationships, personal growth, and academic success.Freshmen can choose traditional or suite-style housing, and they may also opt for the Freshman Experience program, with resources that are there when students need them, but not when they don’t.

Campus life

Georgia Tech is located in the heart of Atlanta, but unless you look up and see the skyline in the near distance, you wouldn’t know it! Spanning 400 wooded acres and served day and night by an award-winning campus transportation system, Georgia Tech’s traditional campus offers a comfortable, yet stimulating living and learning environment, with virtually every amenity close at hand.

Sports facilities

Our NCAA Division I athletics program features 17 men’s and women’s sports, and Tech students are passionate about their beloved Yellow Jackets.Intramural teams and club sports, plus our award-winning Campus Recreation Center, make it easy for all students to find opportunities for competitive fun and personal fitness. Georgia Tech also has one of the best outdoor recreation programs in the country, with year-round excursions near and far.
