The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at North Carolina State University is a natural choice for students interested in pure mathematics who are likely to pursue an advanced degree in mathematics or a closely related field such as theoretical physics, operations research or statistics.

Good students in our program are encouraged to enhance their mathematical education by satisfying some of their elective course work through undergraduate research. This can be done in a reading course with a member of the mathematics faculty, or in a National Science Foundation sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates. Also, several of our students have participated in the Budapest Semester in Mathematics as a key part of their mathematical education.
