Overview

The focus of the Environmental Geosciences - Geology degree at Valdosta State University is on the lithosphere and hydrosphere. You will study topics related to the Earth’s structure, composition, history and processes at work to change Earth’s interior and Earth’s surface. Upon completing the degree program, you are prepared to begin your career in a variety of high-demand fields, take the Professional Geologist Exam, or enter graduate school to continue your studies in geology.

In this program, you will learn to unravel Earth’s history by examining rock layers, exploring spectacular geologic formations, and unveiling ancient life through the study of fossils. Coursework for this program covers the fundamentals in petrology, mineralogy, stratigraphy, hydrogeology, and even the geology of other planets. You learn everything from the top of Earth’s mountains to deep within its interior. Our faculty share their knowledge with you so that you learn theory in the classroom then apply it in labs and the field.
