Overview

These illustrators work with publishing companies to create illustrations intended for 2D print. Examples of publishing work include children’s books, book covers and interiors, magazines, posters, advertising, packaging illustration, medical or scientific illustration, educational content, and several forms of multimedia. Illustration - Publishing is offered at Brigham Young University Idaho.

Illustrators use creativity, critical thinking, and artistic skill to solve some of today’s most challenging commercial needs. Illustration majors will engage in various experiences designed to develop core skills in drawing, painting, digital and mixed media.

To be considered for the Bachelor of Illustration program, students must have completed the Art Fundamentals Cluster and Illustration Minor. Students will then submit a portfolio demonstrating requisite skills, knowledge, and understanding of illustration. If a student is not initially accepted into the program, they will be allowed the opportunity to complete the Illustration Concentration and to apply a second time.

Students will declare their emphasis upon acceptance into the Bachelor of Illustration program. They will work closely with faculty mentors to tailor their education to suit their professional ambitions as they fulfill their program-specific courses and electives.
