Midwifery at The University of Lancashire is about providing care to women, birthing people and families at one of the most important times of their lives. A midwife is usually the first and main contact for the family during pregnancy, throughout labour and in the period following the birth of the baby. As a qualified midwife, you’ll be responsible for providing care and supporting women and birthing people to make informed choices about their care.
Key Facts
You’ll benefit from a case-based approach to learning, where you will learn how to adapt your specialist knowledge to each individual circumstances and wishes, resulting in a more positive experience. At the end of this degree programme, which is divided between academic study and clinical practical, you will be professionally registered as a midwife.
You’ll spend 50% of your time in theory and 50% of your time in clinical practice, allowing you to put theory into practice, within a safe and welcoming environment. Throughout your learning journey you’ll be supported by lecturers and clinical midwives.

General requirements
- 120 at A2 Biology, Human Biology or Health Subject desirable
- BTEC Extended Diploma: DDM in Health related subject
- Pass Access Course: 120 UCAS Tariff points
- International Baccalaureate Diploma: Pass including 120 points from Higher Level Subjects
- T Level: M
- IELTS: 7.0 with no component less than 7.0 taken within two years of the course commencement date
- GCSEs: 5 at grade C/4 including Maths, English and Science to be achieved at time of application
- Applicants are required to attend a selection day when they will be interviewed for the course
- A satisfactory Criminal records declaration (DBS/Disclosure Scotland) and Occupational Health clearance are required for this course.
