Overview

On the Sociology programme from Lycoming College you will be challenged to think deeply about such contemporary issues as inequality according to race, class, gender and sexuality; changes in family structures; health care quality and training; and much more.

Students will acquire a strong foundation of skills that can be used in a wide variety of academic and professional fields, including analytical and critical thinking and speech; logical reasoning and interpretation; and the clear and articulate presentation of your ideas, both in writing and verbally.

Service learning is integrated into the curriculum – courses, including Medical Sociology, Sociology of Aging, Gerontology, and Introduction to Human Services incorporate 40-60 hours of service learning, connecting students with potential networks in fields of interest within the local community.

Classes are taught by faculty with the highest degree in their fields.

In the capstone course, students apply the knowledge they have acquired throughout their time at Lycoming to an individual, well-developed research project.

Low student to faculty ratios within courses ensure students get the attention and help they need.

Submit Your English Proficiency Exam Scores: Lycoming requires submission of one of the following assessments: TOEFL IBT (minimum score 70); TOEFL PBT (minimum score 525); IELTS (minimum overall band score 6.0); Pearson English Test -PTE Academic (minimum score 50) or Duolingo English Test - DET (minimum score 100), unless you live in an English-speaking country.

Submit Financial Support Documents: International students planning to attend with an F-1 or J-1 visa will be required to submit proof of financial support. Students must complete and return the Financial Disclosure Form and an official bank statement (translated into English, if necessary) verifying adequate available funds prior to being considered for admission.
