The Visual Arts, Interdisciplinary Major is offered by Purchase College SUNY. The Interdisciplinary BFA is a studio art degree that allows you to combine two areas within visual arts into a custom course of study. Working in close consultation with a faculty advisor, students are encouraged to explore and experiment.

Graduates should demonstrate:

An understanding basic design principles, concepts, media, and formats in the various fine arts disciplines. Development of this sensitivity continues throughout the degree program.
The ability to apply principles of design and color and competency in drawing to work in specific specializations.
The ability to conceive, design, and create works in at least two specific fine arts fields.
A working knowledge of various aesthetic issues, processes, and media and their relationship to the conceptualization, development, and completion of works of art.
An understanding of the similarities, differences, and relationships among the various fine arts areas.
Familiarity with a broad variety of work in various specializations and media, including broad exposure to works of art.
An emphasis in two fine arts areas.

Generally, successful freshman applicants have earned a GPA of 3.0 (or 85 on a 100 point scale).Purchase does not require scores from the SAT or ACT exam (with exceptions), though applicants are given the option to submit them. It is recommended that test scores be submitted only if it is believed to benefit the application. For applicants who are considering submitting scores, we typically prefer the following:

SAT: 1170 total score; minimum Reading score of 24
ACT: 24 Composite
