Why This Program & What You'll Learn

The Central Michigan University’s Event and Recreation Management (ERM) program prepares you to work in both the for- and non-profit event and recreation management industries. Our students go on to work in places such as amusement or theme parks, community centers, festivals, non-profit organizations, university recreation and activities, sports and entertainment venues, military recreation, corporate and private special events, city and county parks and recreation, convention centers, and faith-based recreation.

Before you go into the real world, you'll get hands-on practical experience. Lots of it. Finish up your academic career with a 30-week internship, the longest of any recreation program in the nation.

Our Center for Leisure Services can help you find a perfect match. You might even earn your mouse ears at Disney World, through the Disney College Program.

General requirements

We take several things into consideration when evaluating applications for admission, including GPA, test scores (optional) and academic improvement over time.

As part of the online application, you’ll need to pay a $40 application fee. If your family is experiencing financial hardship, speak to your high school guidance counselor to see whether you qualify for a fee waiver.

You may submit an unofficial transcript with your application, or ask your school counselor to submit your official transcript. We can provide an admission decision and merit scholarship with either one. Keep us updated with new transcripts at the end of each semester. It may mean an upgrade in your scholarship.

You don’t have to submit a test score in order to be admitted and earn a merit award.
