The Design and Technology (Theatre) Major is offered by Ball State University. Throughout your four years in this STEM-designated program, you will receive personalized, hands-on mentoring from a faculty of working professionals as you are encouraged to develop collaborative aptitude, critical thinking, innovative problem-solving skills, technical competence, and your individual artistic voice.

Key Facts

Immersive opportunities will challenge you to think and problem-solve critically and creatively and see real-world impact when working on plays, musicals, and dance pieces. Starting in your second year, you will customize your educational experiences in one of the following areas: scenic, lighting, costume, sound, hair and makeup, props, and technical theatre. You will have an opportunity to apply your training during the production season through concentrated hands-on application in your specific area of interest. Immersive experiences in our 400-seat proscenium theater, flexible studios, and versatile dance venues provide space for exploration of learned techniques and styles, offering you room to create the artist you want to be. The BFA design technology option is portfolio based and students must be academically admitted to Ball State in order to receive an offer in the area of study.

Admission to Ball State is competitive. We review each individual application to consider your academic performance, level of course work, and English proficiency test scores

Admission criteria include the strength of your high school curriculum and your performance, curricular patterns, and if your grade trends in academic courses were positive and consistent

SAT/ACT scores are not required for admission but scores may be used to meet our English proficiency requirement

You must pay a nonrefundable application fee of U.S. $60
