Overview

Students in the computer science and computer information systems programs at Valdosta State University have access to three computer labs that feature numerous PC workstations. The department’s Smart Lab has workstations that can access Linux, Solaris and Windows servers. In addition, all instructional classrooms are equipped with a computer and projection system. Students working on special projects have access to a cluster lab in which 28 computers act simultaneously to complete given tasks by the master computer. Students have numerous opportunities to gain invaluable work experience, including participation in the Valdosta State Co-op Program. Students are also invited to participate in Valdosta State's chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery.

The Computer Information Systems program focuses on problem solving, analysis, design and implementation of software systems. The major also has a strong business component, with courses in accounting, economics and management. Students are required to take courses in software engineering, database and networking.
