Take advantage of our professional-grade facilities, expert faculty and extensive musical community while choosing the concentration best suited to your interests as a musician.All of our Bachelor of Music students take a core curriculum full of theory, history, technology and technique courses. You'll also study your own instrument or specialty in-depth and grow under close faculty mentorship.;

You'll have the opportunity to live in the School of Music Residential College of Central Michigan University, surrounded by peers who share your interests and goals. Our ensembles, chamber groups, and solo performers participate in festivals, competitions, and conferences at the state, national and international levels. You'll never run out of ways to practice your art here.

Program Highlights

As a bachelor of music student here, you'll:

Live with music students in CMU's unique, music-focused residential hall to form friendships with passionate peers and have convenient access to practice rooms.

Attend master classes presented by guest artists visiting campus or soloists with the Midland Symphony Orchestra.

Gain diverse performance experience in our symphony orchestra, band, choir, marching band, jazz band and opera.

Have access to our 119,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility. This includes a 500-seat concert hall with a 61-rank Casavant organ and a 100-seat recital hall.

General requirements

We take several things into consideration when evaluating applications for admission, including GPA, test scores (optional) and academic improvement over time.

As part of the online application, you’ll need to pay a $40 application fee. If your family is experiencing financial hardship, speak to your high school guidance counselor to see whether you qualify for a fee waiver.

You may submit an unofficial transcript with your application, or ask your school counselor to submit your official transcript. We can provide an admission decision and merit scholarship with either one. Keep us updated with new transcripts at the end of each semester. It may mean an upgrade in your scholarship.

You don’t have to submit a test score in order to be admitted and earn a merit award.
