The purpose of the major is to prepare students for graduate education or vocational opportunities with a mature, uniquely Christian approach.
The Psychology program at Simpson University is designed to meet the diverse needs of students and prepare them for a variety of career paths. Learning Outcomes
- Ethic of Service: Ethic of service here refers to the treatment and care for those with psychological disorders or other relational and developmental problems; support, training, and education to promote growth and maintenance in areas of cognitive, emotional, social, physical, familial, and interpersonal development; and empowerment and affirmation of diverse experiences that emerge from one's cultural and religious background and one's gender.
- Knowldge Base: The Psychology Department aims to provide information regarding the basic content of the field psychology. We are also highly committed to having this knowledge base informed by sound Christian theology.
- Communication and Research Skills: Within the Psychology Department, this skill set include language skills in oral and written form, particularly in terms of how they relate to research skills. Communication skills are essential in order to appropriately and effectively design, interpret, implement and represent psychological theories and research.
- Interpersonal Skills: We attempt to promote the development of interpersonal skills which enable a person to monitor one's own behavior, be sensitive to differences and similarities in others, understand conflicts, and work effectively with people.
