The Early Childhood Special Education program from Black Hills State University provides the opportunity to acquire training and certification needed to work with children, from newborns to eight year olds. Students learn strategies for reaching each individual child and connecting with families to enhance learning.
This major prepares students to work in public schools, state early intervention programs, private schools, or in nationally recognized early childhood developmental centers.

Complete the following high school courses with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0:
- 4 years of English
- 3 years of math (algebra or higher level)
- 3 years of laboratory science
- 3 years of social science
- 1 year of fine arts
Students must meet one of the following admissions requirements:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.6
- Minimum composite ACT of 18 (SAT score of 970 or above)
- Rank in the top 60% of high school class
