Overview
The programmes draw upon many disciplines to prepare graduates for a variety of professional careers. The department also seeks to provide students and the university community with an awareness of and sensitivity to issues of race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and gender.
In this programme, students will learn about the intellectual and social origins of Africana studies as a discipline and its major objectives, concepts, theories, subject/content areas, perspectives, and concerns.
In addition, Africana World Studies - Social Sciences and Community Development track majors can expect to learn about the African, African American, and Caribbean history, literature and culture in a variety of classes offered within the Africana-world studies programme. The major may be combined with teaching certification in elementary education (Early Childhood P-3 and/or Elementary K-6).
