Public safety, international security and industrial safety are the three pillars of Safety and Security Management Studies programme offered by The Hague University of Applied Sciences. In years two and three, you’ll get an insight into contemporary security threats, such as hybrid warfare and transnational crime.

Overview

It’s hard to think of a recent news story that has not involved safety and security. Headlines talk of conflicts, crime, terrorism, racial violence and threats. Safety and Security Management Studies at The Hague University of Applied Sciences specialists are at the helm in the control room in a crisis and at the frontline with organisations’ safety and security issues. 

This doesn’t mean we’re all aiming to work in intelligence. But you will hit the ground running, learning how to thrive under pressure and see another side to society.

Career

Your chances of employment in safety and security management will be high after our pioneering programme. You’ll be able to tap into a contacts list of 40 big, internationally oriented organisations. As an SSMS graduate you’ll be highly employable in a range of exciting positions in various sectors, be it commercial, military or international government. In any case, you’ll be well qualified to identify risk situations and recommend, implement and evaluate feasible safety and security interventions. General requirements

You have a Dutch diploma

To begin the SSMS bachelor's degree programme, you should have a HAVO or VWO diploma with the appropriate profile. For some profiles certain subjects are required. You could also qualify for admission with a MBO (level 4) diploma.

You have a non-Dutch diploma

To enrol for the SSMS programme you will need a secondary school diploma equivalent to that of a Dutch HAVO and a good command of English. Before we can decide on your eligibility, we’ll need to assess your secondary school certificate. To make sure your certificate is evaluated fairly, we work with NUFFIC, an organisation that specialises in the assessment of international education qualifications.

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.

Funding

Do you come from outside the EEA (EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) or Switzerland and want to do your bachelor degree at THUAS? You can apply for the €5,000 Holland Scholarship financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch universities.
