These programs include an Early Childhood Education major for Students with or without Disabilities (grades Pre-K-2), Elementary Education (grades 1-6), and Special Education: Moderate Disabilities (grades PreK-8) or Moderate Disabilities (grades 5-12).

Educator Preparation at Westfield State University as been a vital and integral part of the University since its founding in 1839 by Horace Mann as the Westfield Normal School. The University education program is approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and nationally accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Education Department also serves community college students who wish to transfer into one of three majors offered by the Department: Early Childhood, Elementary and Special Education. The University has several transfer agreements with area community colleges.
