Interact with Portuguese at United States Military Academy at West Point!

Maximize your Portuguese experience by taking part in weekly club activities offering the opportunity to discuss current events and culture with native Portuguese speakers, exchange students, and Portuguese speaking civilians in a casual atmosphere. Participate in trips to churrascaria (Portuguese BBQ); Providence, Rhode Island; Newark, New Jersey; and more.

Semester Abroad Program (SAP): Spend a semester in one of four wonderful universities in Brazil (fall and spring) or Portugal (spring only).

Academic Individual Advanced Development (AIAD): Travel to Brazil, Portugal or other Lusophone countries to study and speak Portuguese in military and non-military settings.

Military Individual Advanced Development (MIAD): Travel to the Agulhas Negras Mountain Range to take part in Brazilian Mountain School.

Up to 60 international cadets may study at West Point at any given time. Eligible countries are selected on an annual basis by the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Department of Defense. The American embassies notify invited nations to nominate up to six candidates per country to compete for admission to West Point.
