Overview
At Sport Coaching (Hons) Cardiff Metropolitan University, we get beneath the surface and appreciate sport coaching for the social and relational activity that it is. We hone in on the people that are involved in coaching and what happens between them. It is not enough to only know about the technical components of a sport and we can’t accept the traditional perspective that a coach simply ‘transmits’ knowledge to athletes and that they learn as a consequence.
Quick Facts:
- The reality of the job is that it is not that clean cut and coaches do much more than this to help athletes learn. For example, coaches need to understand (and then negotiate, manage or orchestrate) the influence that they have on others. Similarly, they also need to realise the influence that other people, existing cultures and the coaches own histories have upon their coaching practice. Throughout the BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching degree you’ll explore and then develop your knowledge of the complex, messy and social nature of sport coaching.
- The Cardiff Met EDGE supports you to thrive in the modern world. Throughout your degree you will experience a range of opportunities to develop your ethical, digital, global and entrepreneurial competencies through problem-based learning, real-world industry case studies, integrated work experiences on campus and opportunities for work-based learning placements off campus. We will ensure that you get a range of opportunities to develop transferable skills such as communication, team work and leadership.
- During your first year of study you will get the opportunity to undertake technical qualifications in a range of industry relevant areas including sport coaching, exercise training & health and safety. These opportunities will ensure that you have the appropriate qualifications and experience to apply for one of the many work placement opportunities on offer both on and off campus.
