Lousiana State University offers a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. This degree program allows breadth of training in many areas of psychology and emphasizes the scientific methodology in psychological research.

About

 In addition, it provides a strong background for graduate training in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, and related degrees. The department has offerings in biological bases of behavior, human development through the life span, industrial psychology, cognitive science, abnormal behavior and social psychology, to name a few. Psychology is one of the most popular majors on the Lousisiana State University campus and the department is known for its excellence in teaching and research.

If you intend to pursue a career in psychology, the department also offers many opportunities for independent study. An honors program is available for upper division students who wish to conduct their own research projects. A new '3+3' Pre-Law program is also available for students interested in creating an efficient path from their undergraduate work to a post-baccalaureate law degree. 

Careers :

  • Clinical or counseling psychologists are likely to work in private practice or in hospitals or community agencies. They are likely to treat individuals with emotional or adjustment problems. 
  • Industrial/Organizational psychologists may work in corporations where they would be concerned with hiring, training, and motivation in the work force. 
  • School psychologists work in educational settings and are concerned with children's learning, social and emotional problems. 
  • Cognitive and Brain Scientists are most likely to work in settings where they conduct research on human behavior; however, some career opportunities exist in business or industrial settings for psychologists specializing in those areas.

General Requirements

  • International students who have never attended a post-secondary education institution will apply as a freshman (first-year student), and must have the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma with an academic average equivalent to a “B” (3.0 or better on the U.S. 4-point grading system).
  • Students must submit complete official records for the secondary level of education and are strongly encouraged to submit ACT or SAT scores. Students who have taken advanced-level exams, international baccalaureate higher-level exams, or other types of secondary education beyond the 12th year of schooling should submit the official certificates, transcripts, and course syllabi for possible advanced placement university credit.
